The Iowa Pharmacy Association
(IPA) developed Katy’s Kids as a program to teach
children about medicines and medicine safety. Katy’s Kids
was developed by the Iowa Pharmacy Association Patient Education Committee in 1988.
Katy’s Kids strives to instill a sense of proper
medication use in children. Katy’s Kids was developed
for kindergarten through second grade students. Presentations are given to classrooms
by pharmacists and student pharmacists of the community.
In its first 20 years, Katy’s Kids has been presented
by pharmacists around the country in 30 states to 200 classrooms- instructing over
50,000 children. Katy’s Kids serves to improve
children’s awareness and understanding of medicine and its use.
